AERIAL LYRA/HOOP
Lyra, or the hoop, is a steel circle suspended from a single point. In class, we practice moves both below, inside, and above the hoop, as well as in the span set that connects the hoop to the rigging. Spinning is introduced at the beginner level to help students get used to the motion. Unlike fabric, the hoop doesn't mold to the body, so students must learn to move around it. Various mounts, dismounts, and shapes can be created within the hoop, using fluid transitions and connecting movements to form beautiful sequences.
Training begins at the beginner level to develop strength, confidence, and flexibility. As students progress, their instructor will provide new challenges and recommend when to move to the next level. Since every student is different, there is no fixed timeline for advancing. For safety, we may ask students to remain at a particular level longer if necessary. Instructors will focus on improving conditioning and control at every class level.
Once you reach Level 1 and instructor permission, you have the option to complement your class training with open gym sessions.
